Moodabidri, a famous place situated 35 km north-east of Mangalore, a place of cultural and historical importance. The name Moodabidri stands for eastern bamboo area. It is situated at a beautiful spot in the midst of hills covered with lush green bamboo trees. Moodbidri is on National Highway 13. Moodabidri is accessible from Mangalore by bus. Just 38 km away. You can reach Mangalore by train, bus or air. Mangalore Airport is just 20 away from Moodbidri. It is at an hour distance from Udupi, place of world fame Sree krishna temple. Also it is near to another jain centric place called Karkala. The other nearby places are Venoor, Kudremukh.
Moodabidri is also known as the Jaina Kashi of South India. In olden times many saints and poets made this place their home. Today Jains from all over India gather here to worship the 18 Jaina Basadis that are dedicated to the memory of the Teerthankars. Eighteen Jain temples and a Math of Sri Charukeerthi Swamiji are seen here.
Tulu is spoken by majority of the population, followed by Konkani & Kannada. Small Muslim population speak Byari and Urdu.

- By Road : There are frequent bus service from Mangalore, Karkala, Udupi other neighboring towns. Karkala is 18 Kms away from Moodabidri on the way to Udupi which is 60 Kms from Moodabidri. Moodabidri can also be reached from Dharmasthala (50Kms) and Bantwal (35Kms).
- By Train : Nearest Railway station is Mangalore, (37 Kms from Moodabidri) which in turn is connected to almost all popular railway stations.
- By Air : Nearest Airport is again Mangalore Airport situated 24kms from Moodabidri.
